Supplement Protocol: Hypercortisol

This post is first in a new series called Protocols. While healing is an individual approach, foundational protocols can help you by providing some “self-help” options.

Protocol: Hypercortisol Management

Do you feel “STRESSED & WIRED?” You might have excess cortisol.

Hypercortisolism is a condition in which the body produces too much of the hormone cortisol. Cortisol is a stress hormone that is produced by the adrenal glands, and it plays a role in a variety of functions in the body, including metabolism, immune function, and blood pressure regulation.

When the body produces too much cortisol, it can lead to a range of symptoms and complications, including:

  • Weight gain, especially around the abdomen, upper back, and face
  • Thin skin that bruises easily
  • Purple or pink stretch marks on the skin
  • Weak muscles and bones
  • High blood pressure
  • Irritability, anxiety, or depression
  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Excessive thirst and urination

Hypercortisolism can be caused by a variety of factors, including problems with the adrenal glands, pituitary gland, or hypothalamus, as well as certain medications or tumors. Treatment may involve medications, surgery, or other interventions to reduce cortisol levels and manage symptoms.

Hypercortisol is typically associated with Cushing’s Syndrome, however an individual can have excess cortisol related to excessive stress.

The following protocol promotes regulation of mood, appetite, memory, focus, energy levels and sleep, while improving stress resilience, supporting resistance to stress and fatigue, and support blood sugar balance.
